聚焦“海洋微生物多样性的时空分布特征及其功能”、“南海生态安全及其可持续发展”等核心科技问题，负责国家基金重大项目“远海岛礁海洋生态系统演化与保护”和“冷泉生态系统生物多样性及其维持机制”开展南海岛礁生态恢复保护、微生物多样性认知和利用研究，发展热带海洋生态工程理论，发明微生物促生态修复等重大战略技术，促进热带海洋生态保护和生物资源利用的工程化，积极推进我国海洋战略性新兴产业发展与海洋生态文明事业。
研究方向：海洋生态工程、冷泉生态系统、岛礁生态系统、海洋装备制造。
