长期从事南海天气尺度海气相互作用机制及影响研究。主持建设了我国第一座深水海气通量观测系统，开发了南海-西太海气耦合预报模式，揭示了锋面对海表风场、大气边界层垂向结构以及降雨日循环等近海环境要素和天气过程的影响，提升了区域模式对热带海气过程模拟的准确性。
